Ranwu Lake is located in Baxoi County, Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet. It sits at an altitude of about 3,850 meters along National Highway 318, making it a must-stop on any Sichuan-Tibet road trip.
Best time to visit: April to June and September to October offer the clearest water and most stable weather. The lake freezes in winter.
Transportation: Self-driving along Highway 318 is the most popular option. Ranwu Lake is about 350km from Nyingchi and 600km from Lhasa. There are also long-distance buses from Lhasa to Baxoi.
Tips: Altitude sickness is a real concern at 3,850 meters. Acclimatize properly before visiting. Bring warm clothing even in summer, as temperatures can drop significantly at night.
